距離市中心不遠的「中峇魯」，是新加坡一處歷史悠久的老住宅區，英國政府殖民時期，在這裡開始建起一棟棟的公共住宅(也稱組屋)，每棟住宅均不超過4層樓，經過無數戰火後仍完整保存下來。現在，這裡除了被劃為保留區之外，以前的老建築也成為一間間獨具特色的咖啡廳、麵包店，或是富有文創氣息的書店。
